2021 Job Openings – Part-time Farm Assistant
North Valley Organics – Albuquerque, NM
About us: North Valley Organics is a 3-acre urban farm located in Albuquerque’s North Valley. We grow certified organic, fresh market vegetables for sale to local school districts, CSAs and farmer’s markets in central New Mexico. We are a USDA-certified training site for those interested in principles of soil health and organic agriculture. We grow using a living mulch, minimal till cover-crop system that allows us to farm intensively while simultaneously feeding our soil. We are also deeply committed to growing and saving our own seeds.
2021 Job Openings: For the 2021 season, North Valley Organics is looking for a qualified individual to join our team as a part-time Farm Assistant. Farm Assistants will be included in all aspects of farm work including field prep, planting, harvesting, marketing, infrastructure work and farm planning.
Schedule – 3 days a week or 18 – 21 hours/week. Farm Assistants can generally design their own schedule as long as their hours fall between 8 am and 4 pm Monday thru Friday. Hours will be lower in February and March, November and December.
Dates: February 1 – December 17, 2021. 45 Weeks total.
Compensation: $9/hour.
Qualifications: We are seeking individuals with a long term interest in small-scale sustainable agriculture in New Mexico. People on our team must be both self-directed and willing to learn, able to manage their own work when necessary and also work as part of a team. The ability to communicate and to be upfront about personal needs and abilities is very important. Any candidate MUST be able to repeatedly lift heavy objects (25-50 lbs) and perform regular and frequent squats. They must be at least 18 years old and be able to perform manual labor in challenging weather conditions.
